The Lookover program

Lookover, operated by Webspin, LLC, sends automated service messages to U.S. mobile numbers. When text messaging is available, you can send documents, photos or questions to the Lookover number shown in your account. Explanations and follow-up replies are produced automatically by software. Other messages can include:

  • the request asking you to reply YES, and sign-in codes and links you ask for;
  • a short notice when an explanation is taking longer than usual;
  • notices when something you sent could not be explained, is being checked, or reached a daily limit, and when a free household’s allowance is used;
  • reminders, weekly overviews and important alerts you chose;
  • notices about your household membership, your account, a coming change to our terms, and a welcome text after a subscription starts;
  • confirmations of STOP, START and HELP, and responses to support requests.

These are service messages, not a subscription to promotional texts. Lookover never sends referral offers or other marketing by text.

The text program is for people 18 or older who live in the United States, using a U.S. mobile number they own or are authorized to use. Numbers in U.S. territories are accepted; numbers from Canada and other countries that share the +1 country code are not.

Lookover does not verify who issued a document, guarantee that a message is safe, or act on a document for you. Explanations can be wrong. This is not an emergency service.

Your permission comes first

Providing a phone number is not a substitute for that person’s permission. If you request activation for your own number, Lookover sends a request asking you to reply YES. The request says that what you send may include health or financial information, that our service providers, including Anthropic, process it to prepare explanations, that replying YES confirms the number is yours, that you live in the United States, are 18 or older and accept the terms of service, and that replying STOP stops texts and processing; it links our terms of service, privacy policy and health data privacy notice. Regular document processing and service texts for that number begin after you reply YES. A YES covers only the number that sent it. In the same way, permission you give on the website or in the app covers only the addresses you have verified yourself; a number someone else added for you is read only after it replies YES.

An account cannot be started by text. If you text Lookover from a number that is not on an account, Lookover checks the message only for STOP, HELP or START, does not read or keep anything else you sent, and deletes its copy straight away; our messaging provider’s copy is deleted within about 30 days. Lookover keeps a one-way fingerprint of the number and a short delivery record for about 30 days, so that it replies at most once a week to say how to sign up, and keeps a STOP from that number so it keeps working. To sign up, create an account with your email address at my.lookoverit.com/signup (an invitation code is currently required), then connect your phone under New document, Send by text. If you joined someone else’s household, ask the person who manages it to add your number. Lookover then texts that number once, asking you to reply YES.

Before an account holder adds another person’s number, they must obtain that person’s permission to receive the invitation. The invited person must then confirm directly with Lookover. The one-time invitation identifies the person who requested it and the intended recipient. Sending an invitation earns no referral reward. A relative cannot agree on their behalf simply by adding the number. If an unexpected invitation reaches you, ignore it or reply STOP; you do not need to send any documents.

By confirming, you agree to receive the described automated texts at that number. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Consent is specific to Lookover’s service messages and is not sold or transferred to another messaging program. Sending us a question allows us to respond to that exchange; it does not enroll you in unrelated promotional messages.

You do not have to give a phone number at all, and agreeing to texts is never a condition of subscribing. Create your account with your email address, then use the website or app to upload documents or send them to the household email address shown in your account. You can set up text messaging later, or never. You must be the subscriber or an authorized user of any number you activate. Tell us when you lose access to it or it is reassigned.

Message frequency and delivery

The number of messages depends on what you send, follow-up questions, reminders and account activity. A document normally generates one explanation, plus a short notice if it takes longer than usual, and longer replies may use multiple SMS segments. Weekly overviews and important alerts may add messages. We do not promise a fixed number of messages or a response time.

Reminders, weekly overviews and alerts that can wait are sent between 8 am and 8 pm local time, using your number’s area code (or the household’s time zone where that is not known, or where the two never share those hours). Replies to what you send, and urgent alerts, can arrive at any time.

Delivery depends on carrier coverage, your device, filtering and service availability. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. If the last three texts to a number fail permanently within 30 days, for example because the number was disconnected, Lookover stops texting it and emails the number’s owner if they have a Lookover sign-in with an email address. Otherwise, the person managing each household the number is connected to is emailed the number and that texts to it have stopped, so they can update it; a STOP is never reported to them. Do not rely on a text as your only record of a deadline.

STOP: end texts

Reply STOP to end Lookover texts to your number. It also withdraws permission to read what that number sends: nothing sent from it is explained afterwards. STOP does not change your sharing choices; documents you already shared stay visible to the people you chose until you change that in People & sharing. STOPALL, UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, END, QUIT, REVOKE and OPTOUT work the same way, as do equivalent words in Lookover’s supported languages, such as ALTO, PARAR, BAJA, ARRÊT or STOPP. A plain request such as “stop texting me” or “remove me from your list” also works, in English and several other languages. If a short message that starts with an opt-out word is unclear, Lookover asks whether you want texts to stop rather than ignoring it. After STOP, no household can connect your number again until you reply START. You receive one confirmation of the opt-out; after CANCEL, it also says how to cancel a subscription. If you opt out through your carrier or our messaging provider instead, Lookover treats it the same as STOP. Other reasonable requests to withdraw consent can be sent to support@lookoverit.com; we may need enough information to identify the number.

STOP and CANCEL do not cancel your subscription. This applies to the account holder and invited senders alike. Subscription charges and email service continue until you cancel the subscription with the provider shown on the household’s Billing & plan page: on the website for a website subscription, or in the App Store or Google Play for a purchase made there. STOP does not delete your account data. The terms of service explain cancellation timing and refunds.

START: request texts again

Reply START to remove the texting opt-out. Because STOP withdrew permission to read as well, Lookover asks for YES again before anything sent from your number is explained. Your sharing choices were not changed by STOP. If you withdrew permission yourself on the website or in the app, START does not restore it; give permission there again. START does not restore a canceled subscription or create a new charge. The account holder can check service availability and subscription options in the account.

HELP and human support

Reply HELP for service instructions and how to reach support. You can ask for support in your own words, use the contact form, or email support@lookoverit.com. If you ask who explains your documents, Lookover tells you that explanations are produced automatically by software and how to reach a person. Human support is asynchronous and is not emergency assistance. Calls to the Lookover number reach an automated help line; the call may be recorded and transcribed.

Cost and privacy

Your carrier’s message and data charges may apply. Lookover does not add a separate per-text charge; the subscription price is described in the terms of service.

Your permission to receive Lookover text messages is specific to Lookover. We do not sell, rent, transfer or share text-message opt-in data or consent with third parties or affiliates for their own use, including marketing or promotional purposes. Other sharing permissions in our privacy policy exclude text-message opt-in data and consent; they do not grant another business permission to text you.

Twilio, our messaging provider, and participating carriers process information necessary to deliver, support and operate Lookover messages on our behalf. This does not give them permission to market to you or use your consent for another messaging program. Disclosures required by law remain subject to applicable law. SMS and ordinary email are not end-to-end encrypted; messages can appear on lock screens, shared devices and carrier systems.

We do not sell mobile numbers or share them for others’ marketing. Household managers can see the contact details and setup status needed to manage people in their household. That visibility does not transfer your permission to receive Lookover messages to anyone else.

See our privacy policy for content retention, authorized staff access and service providers, and our health data privacy notice for health-related documents. If we materially change this program, we will provide notice and obtain new consent where required. We announce a change to Lookover’s terms of service at least 30 days before it takes effect, by email, or by text if we have no email address for you. From that date, nothing you text is read until you accept the new terms; a number that gave permission by replying YES is asked to confirm again, at most once a week.
